Flowbar
Privacy Policy
Flowbar is an Android app developed by MSDC Connect. This policy explains what information Flowbar accesses, how it is used, and the choices you have.
Summary
Flowbar has no servers and no accounts. It does not collect, sell, or share your personal data, and MSDC Connect never receives it, unless you choose to email us. Your searches, contacts, calendar events, and saved links are processed on your device, except web searches, which open in your browser. Flowbar has no advertising, analytics, or tracking. The only time Flowbar itself connects to the internet is to download the icon for a website you save as a link, as described below.
Information Flowbar accesses
- Contacts. If you turn on contact search and grant the Contacts permission, Flowbar reads your contacts so it can show matching contacts in search results. They are processed only on your device and never stored, uploaded, or shared.
- Calendar. If you turn on calendar search and grant the Calendar permission, Flowbar reads your calendar events on your device so it can show matching upcoming events in search results. It only reads your calendar, and never stores, uploads, or shares your events.
- Installed apps. Flowbar reads the list of apps installed on your device so it can show them in search results. This list stays on your device.
- Saved links. Links you save in Flowbar, with their names and website icons, are stored on your device.
- Settings. Your preferences, such as the position of the edge handle, are stored on your device.
Website icons for saved links
When you save a link, Flowbar downloads that website's icon so it can show it next to the link. To do this, Flowbar connects to the website you saved, and to any server that website directs it to for its pages or icon (for example, its content delivery network), over a secure (HTTPS) connection. It does not use a third-party icon service. As with visiting any website, those servers can see your device's IP address and the address requested. Flowbar sends no cookies. Its requests only identify themselves as coming from Flowbar on an Android device.
Opening things in other apps
Some actions hand you over to another app. That app then handles your information under its own privacy policy:
- Web search opens your search in your web browser using Google Search, under Google's Privacy Policy. Flowbar does not send or store your query itself.
- Saved links open in your browser or in the app that handles that website.
- Calling or texting a contact opens your phone or messaging app.
- Calendar events open in your calendar app. Joining a meeting opens the meeting link in the meeting app or your browser.
Clipboard
When you copy a calculator result or a saved link, Flowbar places it on your device's clipboard. Flowbar does not read your clipboard.
Digital assistant
If you set Flowbar as your default digital assistant, using the assistant gesture opens Flowbar's search bar. Flowbar does not record audio and does not read the contents of your screen.
Permissions
- Display over other apps: shows the edge handle on top of other apps.
- Notifications: required by Android while the edge handle service is running.
- Run at startup: turns the edge handle back on after your phone restarts, if you had it on.
- Contacts: used only for contact search.
- Calendar: used only for calendar search.
- Internet access: used only to download website icons for links you save.
- Vibration: provides haptic feedback.
Data security
Flowbar never sends your contacts, calendar events, or settings to MSDC Connect or anyone else, and never sends your saved links to MSDC Connect. Information stored by Flowbar is kept in its private storage on your device and is protected by Android's built-in app sandboxing and security.
Device backup
If backup is turned on for your device, Android may include Flowbar's settings, saved links, and website icons in your device backup. Backups are handled by Google (or your device maker) under your backup settings. Contacts and calendar events are never stored by Flowbar, so Flowbar adds no copy of them to your backup.
Data retention and deletion
Flowbar does not keep copies of your contacts, calendar events, or app list. Your saved links, website icons, and settings remain on your device until you delete them on the Links screen, clear Flowbar's data, or uninstall the app. You can revoke the Contacts or Calendar permission at any time in your device's settings.
Children
Flowbar is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
